Vintage Doubles Breast Cancer
Benefit
Raises $12,000 for Breast Cancer Research
Sixty five players participated in the Annual Vintage Doubles
tournament held at Petaluma Valley Athletic Club November 11-13,
2005. The four courts at PVAC were busy all weekend with players
participating in round robin doubles, culminating with finals
Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening featured a dinner followed by
the raffle of a large number of great items, TVs, DVD players,
wine, jewelry, bikes, music boxes, Ektelon and Wilson product
and much much more including the grand prize of a trip to Maui.
Raffle tickets were sold before and during the tourney and the
sale of these tickets and donations contributed to the large
donation to breast cancer research. Shirts, printing, entry
forms, trophies and much of the food was donated. Tournament
Directors paid for any tournament expense, which was not donated
so that all money from the tourney could go to the benefit.
This tournament held a special
place in many hearts as the PVAC club owner is currently
battling breast cancer. She was elated with the generosity shown
by participants, guests, sponsors, and many others.
In
conjunction with this special fundraiser, area Team Ektelon
players joined forces with tournament directors to designate the
tourney as a Racquet for the Cure event. Team Ektelon players
donated $250 to help defray the hospitality expenses, assisted
in the sale of raffle tickets, and several donated $200 or more
as tournament sponsors. They were also available to assist
during the tourney.

Nida Funes worked with local
nurses and had a breast cancer awareness information table set
up which included posters and brochures relative to breast
cancer awareness. Team Ektelon Players organized and held a
separate O3 Pink racquet selling raffle tickets for $5.00 per
ticket. This raffle added $500 to the donation and made one
young lady very happy. |
